Master's Mix

Supplies

  • Filter patch grow bags (0.5 micron)
  • Hardwood fuel pellets
  • Soy hull pellets

Process

  • In each bag, mix the following ingredients:
    • 1 lb / 454 g hardwood fuel pellets
    • 1 lb / 454 g soy hull pellets
    • 3 lb / 1361 g warm water
  • Wipe around the edges and fold gusset down with filter patch facing out. Push air out
  • Seal bag and slit for venting
  • Sterilize bag in a pressure cooker at 15 psi for 2.5-3 hours
    • For Presto:
      • Use 3 quarts of water
      • Make sure to elevate bags off the water level (use three small jars)
      • Put a plate on top of bags to weigh down and prevent inflation
      • Let cool down naturally and seal or leave overnight without opening the pressure cooker when done to avoid bags bursting.
    • For All American:
      • Place the inner container rack on the bottom rack and load up to 8 bags in the main chamber (no inner container)
      • Lay the vent tube on top of the bags so that it’s not cinched and at the top of the PC
  • Inoculate each bag with ¼ lb grain spawn in SC (4 bags / qt jar or 12 bags / 3 lb bag) or impulse seal for later use
  • Inflate with flow hood air and impulse seal the bag in SC
  • Shake bag to distribute grains evenly throughout
  • Incubate substrate for around 2 weeks until fully colonized, then fruit
